  1. I think we might be beyond the point where this sort of blatant racism is enjoyed, per se. What's more common now is a whole ontology of racism that includes various code words and imagery. No less despicable but much more insidious. The gorilla has transformed into the gang-banger and the poor African as a signifier of attitudes about black culture in America. It's perhaps viewed with just as much mystery but the affinity for anthropomorphism has tempered.
